About Us:


In Alberta there are approximately 240 agencies, boards and commissions (ABCs) fulfilling a range of functions for Albertans from corporate enterprise, public trust to service delivery, regulatory/adjudicative and advisory.

As a centre of excellence, the Public Agency Secretariat (PAS) within the Public Service Commission, collaborates with departments and public agencies to promote a consistent approach to public agency governance, recruitment and compensation.


  • The PAS provides assistance, tools and advice to government departments and public agencies to assist in:
  • Following best practices in governance including adhering to legislative requirements;
  • Leading a coordinated centralized recruitment process for public agency appointments; and
  • Providing information to Albertans to increase public awareness regarding the role of public agencies and the value of serving on a board.

Role:


The Policy Assistant will exercise and demonstrate a systems-thinking approach, as the individual will be working across a number of different areas in PAS, as well as with multiple departments and agencies, to ultimately support overall good governance in public agencies.

It will be an opportunity for the individual to experience first-hand the work involved in developing and implementing policy, legislation, and regulations, while providing ample opportunity to develop other key competencies, such as effectively researching, collecting, and analyzing information.

You will develop written materials to support governance and recruitment associated with Agencies, Boards, and Commissions (ABCs). You will also assist with drafting briefing materials, presentations while reviewing and understanding legislation involving ABCs.

High school diploma or related diploma/degree from a post-secondary institution within the last five (5) years as indicated in the role above.

Related experience as indicated in the role above.

Equivalencies will be considered:

related degree and no experience; 2 year related diploma and no experience; 1 year related certificate and 1 year of related experience; high school diploma and 2 years of related experience.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Salary:

$2,310.48 to $3,030.81 bi-weekly ($60,303 to $79,104/yearly)
