Job Summary


The Payroll and Accounting Assistant provides administrative support to the Finance Department to ensure payroll is entered, calculated and maintained in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

Additionally, this role will assist with data entry, maintaining appropriate filing systems and other supportive tasks related to the organization.


Qualifications and Requirements
The Payroll and Accounting Assistant requires attention to detail, thoroughness while working under pressure and tight deadlines. Two or more years' experience and/or education, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Ideally have broad knowledge of accounting systems, specifically Accpac and payroll process. Experience with HRIS, or at minimum strong IT usage is necessary. Proven communication skills accompanied with a flexible attitude for learning and development for an ever changing environment is necessary. Strong understanding of confidential information and sensitivity of information is a necessary behavior.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with daily payroll operations to ensure processed accurately and timely
  • Calculate, maintain and verify vacation/sick time taken
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
  • Perform compliance for unclaimed payroll checks as outlined by policy
  • Process manual cheque's and ROE's as needed
  • Process accurate and timely yearend reporting
  • Liaise with HR department as needed on appropriate documentation required
  • Submit and report to senior management payroll costs biweekly
  • Other duties as deemed necessary or as directed for the overall success of the finance department

Salary:
$19.00-$22.00 per hour
