What is the Role

This position supports the administration of the Plan by preparing documentation for claim adjudication, recording adjudication decisions, processing changes to benefit amounts, and supporting the overall administration of claims within the plan.

The Disability Service Representative communicates with members through various means, providing accurate information and technical explanations related to Plan provisions.


What You Will Do

  • Provide prompt and courteous service by dealing sensitively and empathetically with claimants, family members and/or representative of deceased claimants.
  • Answer inquiries from members or their agents and senior administrative staff or redirects inquiries.
  • Monitor status of pending and existing claims.
  • Monitor receipt of documentation required for adjudication and follows up with claimants, doctors, employers, and others when not received in a timely basis.
  • Assist in the entering of review requirements documentation into the LTD claims administration system.
  • Update LTD claims administration system with approval dates, reminders, and notes.
  • Communicate to claimants up for review, through written correspondence and verbally, results of adjudication meetings including approval/denial of claim, period of entitlement, expectations, and requirements for further review.
  • Prepare review reminder letters to claimants for peer review.
  • Recalculate benefit amounts and draft related correspondence for peer review due to changes in teaching percentages, receipt of replacement income, and odd days lost.
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of the claims committee agenda and agenda supplements.

What You Will Bring

  • You will either have completed or will be working towards a Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation or equivalent plus 23 years of benefit administration experience, preferably in disability claims administration.
  • Demonstrated initiative in undertaking assignments and completing work accurately within strict timelines.
  • A strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Superior interpersonal and member service skills in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, members, stakeholders and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • High work standards related to information accuracy, completeness and confidentiality.
  • A strong working knowledge of administrative procedures and practices.
  • Sharp critical thinking and analytical skills, balanced with a proven ability to follow established processes and procedures.

What You Can Expect
The salary range is $48,588 to $60,720.

The Federation offers a 35-hour work week plus a full range of benefits, including extended health care; retirement plan; group life insurance; sick leave; long-term disability and paid leave to deal with family, health and sickness and compassionate situations.
