We are currently looking for a compassionate and self-motivated Education Assistant to join our team.

Experience with the education and support of students with learning style differences at the Middle and High School level is essential.

In this position, you will be responsible for supervising students with a variety of learning and behavioral needs, and assisting classroom teachers with supervision and support.

Additionally, the Education Assistant will work with the Academy's Student Life Counselor Supervisor to provide social/emotional support to students as needed.


In this role, you will:


  • Support lesson material with students individually or in small groups.
  • Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean.
  • Help oversee students during nonclassroom times including inbetween classes, during lunch, and on field excursions.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate with School Life Counselor Supervisor to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
  • Comply with provincial, school, and classroom standards and regulations.
  • Participate in YMCA Academy cocurricular activities and philanthropic activities of the YMCA of Greater Toronto (e.g. Annual Sweat for Good Challenge; Homework Club; social/skills afterschool clubs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:


  • Successful completion of Educational Assistant training at the college level or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience in and enthusiasm for working with youth with learning disabilities, social/emotional needs, and/or language processing challenges who are underperforming or who are disengaged from their learning process
  • Knowledge of current curricular trends, use of manipulatives and assistive technologies
  • Experience in print and electronic media in an educational setting
  • Experience in nontraditional teaching environments and an appreciation for supporting the whole person
  • Solid interpersonal skills coupled with ingenuity and flexibility for responding to the multiple demands of students, parents, colleagues, partners, sponsors, supporting YMCA program staff; understanding that the parent is the customer
  • Able to work within the complexities of a large, notforprofit charitable organization
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with students, parents/guardians, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Some evening and weekend work as required: e.g. Parent/Teacher interviews, Open Houses, Parent Socials, and so on.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
