Your opportunity:


Under general direction of the Assistant Director, Operations and Finance, the incumbent is responsible for providing academic advising, developing and delivering academic support programming and performing various administrative functions which facilitate the daily operation of our undergraduate programs and the delivery of undergraduate courses.


The Program Advisor is a key part of the Student Success Team in the Department and is responsible for: interpreting and advising faculty, staff and students on University and program requirements, policies and procedures.

In addition, the incumbent will prepare, summarize and interpret data relating to students and programs for the purpose of strategic and course/program planning, instructor allocation and other needs as required.

The Program Advisor participates in the program development process.

This position is also responsible for developing and delivering various workshops, seminars and other student outreach initiatives designed to encourage student engagement and promote academic success.

The Program Advisor advises students throughout their studies and proactively refers them, if necessary, to other student services on campus.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Verifying that students have access to courses in student information systems
  • Reviewing and approving changes to program requirements for exceptional cases
  • Leading seminars and/or workshops
  • Analyzing service delivery and/or internal processes and recommending improvements
  • Keeping wellinformed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' of related student advising experience in an academic environment.
  • Proven experience in advising students on courses and program selections.
  • Strong computer skills and work experience with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as experience with website content management or related software.
  • Experience with the University's Student Information System ROSI (Repository of Student Information)/ACORN, Degree Navigator or a similar database system required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build effective partnerships with faculty, colleagues and students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational, conflict resolution and problemsolving skills.
  • Highly developed analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team in a fastpaced, serviceoriented environment.
  • Creativity, initiative and ability to work under pressure.
