The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager of Primary Health, the Coordinator, Mental Health and Wellness, will provide leadership and expertise to community mental health initiatives with a key focus on children, youth and families as part of the IWK's partnership with Nova Scotia Health and the Community Health Team initiative.

The Coordinator will plan, implement and evaluate community-based mental health programs and projects and will prioritize these based on evidence and the needs of the community.

Interventions will be in partnership with community members and community organizations and will focus on building skills and advocating with community residents for appropriate supports.

The Coordinator will also provide wellness navigation support to children, youth and families in their assigned communities. This work will utilize a population health approach including a focus on community development and the determinants of health.

This position will require work at multiple sites and travel between various community locations throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.


Hours of Work:

7.5 hour shifts; 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday though flexible work hours (including evenings and weekends) required.


Your Qualifications:


  • Baccalaureate degree required in one of the following health professions: Occupational Therapy or Social Work.
  • Registration, or eligible for registration, with respective professional regulatory association required.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in mental health; primary health care settings/communitybased group education is required.
  • Experience working and interacting with children, youth and families.
  • Preferred experience in partnership development, stakeholder collaboration, and community development.
  • Experience working directly in a variety of diverse and underserved communities is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License, access to a reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance required.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and communication (verbal & written) skills, utilizing adult education principles.
  • Excellent time management, organization and problemsolving skills.
  • Competency in other languages considered an asset.
