Harm Reduction Counselor

Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS)

Hamilton Urban Core is a thriving inner city health centre and a leader in the provision of high quality primary health services and health promotion programs.

Our comprehensive health services are delivered through a dynamic team of multidisciplinary, inter
- professional health providers. As an inner city health centre our client populations include individuals and families with chronic and complex health and social conditions, many of who are living in poverty.

The Consumption Treatment Service Harm Reduction Counselors will provide harm reduction services and education, counselling and case management to CTS clients in collaboration with other Hamilton Urban Core team members or by making referrals to community health care or service providers.

The Harm Reduction Counselors will ensure that people are connected to support and treatment services if needed and when they are ready with the goal of connecting people to the care or service they need when and where they need it.

The CTS Harm Reduction

Counselor will provide effective and efficient service to clients and communities using responsive and innovative approaches that are framed by health equity and integrate the social determinants of health.

Degree or Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation from a community college or university, and or experience working in a Recreation setting required
Demonstrated experience in designing, planning, executing and evaluating recreational activities and therapeutic programs for persons who use drugs.
Relevant education and experience in counselling and harmreduction
Strong communication and organization skills
Demonstrated work experience with marginalized individuals and communities
Demonstrated experience working with individuals who use drugs
Experience working within an antiracism, antioppression culturally safe framework

Working knowledge and understanding of community health centres
