The Intake Worker responds to requests for services as the initial contact point in the Organization.
The Intake Worker serves as a triage point, providing initial screening for appropriate services, providing options regarding Family Services Ottawa services and/or referring to appropriate services based on the individual situation.
The Intake Worker provides supportive crisis intervention to clients in distress.The Intake Worker is responsible for:
- Answering all Intake calls promptly and professionally.
- Providing supportive crisis intervention to clients in distress
- Providing initial assessment and screening of clients contacting the organization for service
- Assessing for suicide risk and/or risk of violence
- Providing specific screening for history of abuse/ violence, mental health issues, custody and access factors and factors and involvement in the Criminal Justice System, information related to mandated services etc.
- Collecting and entering all required intake information, arranging appointments and entering data into client database
- Maintaining schedule of counsellor availability and assigning cases; maintaining waiting lists
- Liaising with other community agencies/ professionals to develop and maintain referral sources.
- Providing referral information for other community resources/services as appropriate to the client situation
- Assessing clients' fees.
- Other related duties as assigned.
You have a bachelor's in social work and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in social services organizations/settings.
In addition, you have:
- Experience with diverse clientele.
- Experience in working with clients in crisis.
- Knowledge of risk factors; training in initial risk assessment.
- Knowledge of community resources and referral sources.
- Knowledge of child protection mandates for reporting
- Knowledge of current standards for practice such as protocols for working with violence against women.
- Understanding of cultural awareness and diversity.
You bring the following:
- Strong organizational skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Skills in working as a team and within team approach.
- Strong computer skills including Office 365 and client databases.
- Ability to deal with people in distress, deescalation skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with in team/program guidelines and best practices.
- Ability to manage competing demands in regard to time/ work pressures.
- Ability to maintain a respectful and professional approach/ standard with clients and colleagues.
