Major Responsibilities:
The Financial Trainee will assist divisional staff with general accounting, purchasing, payroll and budget duties in addition to vendor communication as it relates to the program area.
Duties may include the following:
- Assist with accounting/purchasing/payroll/budget duties.
- Assist with the compilation of financial/accounting/purchasing/payroll/budget and statistical information.
- Enter and update and match financial data, account information, etc.
- Assist in processing accounts, billings, collections, etc.
- Collect, compile, extract and organize data for others to use/analyze.
- Provide support to Accounting Assistants in their appropriate functions, e.g., timely processing of invoices, petty cash reimbursements, grants, transfers of funds and any other payment documents, inputting data for journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, invoice and credit memo processing, payments and deposits, customer refunds, vendor information updates and other related tasks.
- Assists with calculations and the preparation of different financial reports.
- Respond to enquiries by referring to appropriate staff.
Key Qualifications:
- Postsecondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (i.e. finance, accounting, economics, business administration or other relevant field), or an approved combination of education and experience. Present enrolment towards completion of professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
- Experience performing financial calculations and financial analysis/investigations (such as reviewing budgets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.), using financial systems (i.e. SAP or equivalent.)
- Experience in analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).

- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service when dealing with the pubic.
