We are currently looking for a Child Care Cook to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's Chippewa location in North Bay.

Under the leadership of the Supervisor of Child, Youth & Family Development (CYFD), the Child Care Cook is responsible for planning, preparing and serving nutritious lunches and snacks for the children in the childcare centre, while meeting the regulations of the Canadian Food Guide and YMCA's Best Practices.

RATE OF PAY:
$17.59 per hour


HOURS: 30 per week

Major Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning of the menus, ensuring that they consist of nutritional and highquality food items which are in accordance with Canada's Food Guide and public health recommendations.
  • Track menu changes in accordance with the Child Care & Early Years Act and the Health Unit regulations
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Clean the work environment, kitchen, service area, and storage area as required and scheduled
  • Prepare food and beverages according to the standards, ensuring proper and safe food handling
  • Post all changes to the menu on a daily basis
  • Responsible for food substitutions for children with dietary restrictions, allergies and/or cultural needs
  • Implement and support the guidelines/regulations of the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA) as well as all thirdparty governing agencies such as DSSAB/Municipality, Public Health and Fire Department and the Ministry of Education
  • Ensure that the health code standards are met/exceeded

Qualifications:


  • Food Handler's Certification
  • Health assessment from Medical Professional and Immunizations Record (or exemption) as recommended and approved by the local Medical Officer of Health
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR (Level C) *Recognized by the WSIB
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in food preparation or related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (French communication skills considered an asset)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Solid knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards and code
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of all information and communications (oral and written) pertaining to the association, its officers, staff, students, volunteers, the children in our care and their families
  • Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
