Description

The Development Planning Officer evaluates proposals for development, provides advice, participates, facilitates and consults as a representative of the Department with regards to zoning development and land use issues.


As the _Development Planning Officer,_
you will:


Your education and qualifications include:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Environmental Studies or a related field, or a Planning Technician Certificate from a Community College, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience working with the community in a participative and interactive manner.
  • Experience in public meetings, representing an agency in such situations.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respectful working relationships, including dealing effectively, with all levels of employees and the public.
  • Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to conduct public presentations.
  • Strong written communication skills including formal report writing.
  • Analytical and decisionmaking skills.
  • Knowledge of zoning bylaws, development procedure bylaws, the City of Winnipeg Charter and Plan Winnipeg.
  • Knowledge of contemporary planning and community service issues.
  • Working knowledge of health cities/health community's principles.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and associated software (Word, Outlook, AMANDA, geographic information systems).
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver's notice in force document upon request.
