Duties:


The Manager position plays a senior advisor and operational role on the Student Success management team to deliver high quality library services tri-campus.

In reporting to the Associate Dean, Global Partnerships and Learning Services, the incumbent develops strategic goals and initiatives to provide Libraries and Learning Commons' leadership through:
(1) focusing on improving our learner experience, (2) supporting and teaching academic literacies; (3) providing access to a wide collection of high quality and accessible resources; and (4) providing enhanced and accessible learning spaces. This position supports the college value of belonging and indigenous ways of knowing and being. It ensures that the library is an inclusive environment that provides students with equitable opportunity to be able to access the learning resources in order to be successful in their study and career.


The incumbent provides leadership and a strong understanding of evolving issues/trends in higher education, libraries, learning commons and scholarly communication.

The Manager is responsible for continuous review of current library services; the development of new services; and maintaining a current awareness of best practices, emerging services, and technologies.

There is accountability for the effective planning, resourcing and administration of student-related services, practices, and facilities that complements and supports academic programming, enhance access and support student success in relation to Key Performance Indicators and college strategic directions.

The Manager is responsible for service data collection, reporting to Ministry funders as well as proposal writing required to secure funding dollars.

As academic libraries, St.

Lawrence Libraries' must provide access to a wide collection of high-quality and accessible library learning resources, reflecting the curriculum through academic community partnerships and this is a key accountability of the incumbent.

The incumbent provides vision and leadership in the development, coordination, delivery and review of the library collections and services at each campus.

The incumbent must ensure a coordinated approach to information resources management and acquisitions for St Lawrence Libraries with the result of providing relevant resources that are in alignment with the curriculum and research needs of our students and faculty.

This requires a responsive, innovative and hybrid approach to acquiring and managing learning resources and employing new technologies, new formats, and accessibility standards.


The incumbent works directly with Managers, Directors, Associate Deans, Deans, Faculty, and support staff to plan and coordinate library resources and services in order to support college wide goals of student success and retention.

In addition, the Manager serves as a member of various campus/community/provincial committees and works closely and regularly with colleagues and community partners across all departments with the Student Success division and beyond, such as Marketing and Recruitment, Facilities, and Academic Divisions.


Qualifications:


Education and Experience:

A minimum of a 4-year degree in library and information science and any equivalent higher education training for librarianship.


Other Required Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated ability of the provision of supervisory and management skills in a multicampus environment which includes providing appropriate advice and the maintenance of relationships with students, faculty, and college managers.
  • Experience/skills in mediation/conflict resolution.
  • Superior research, oral and written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Overall understanding of the operation and structure of academic libraries and understanding of future directions of library services, learning commons and associated resources
  • Requires indepth knowledge and expertise in the licensing of electronic library collections and library systems
  • Extensive knowledge of Copyright law and policies
  • Working knowledge of a variety of software packages including MS Word and Excel.
  • A strategic understanding of the challenges, emerging trends, and issues in library services in postsecondary education
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation pertaining to the postsecondary educational environment such as: Ontario Human Rights Code, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, etc
  • Strong interpersonal skills including problemsolving, conflict resolutio
