Applications are invited from qualified individuals to fill the following position:

One (1) Permanent Full Time

Pension and Benefits Advisor

NBRHC - NORTH BAY
Reporting to the Manager Total Compensation and as a member of the Human Resources team, the Human
Resources Pension and Benefits Advisor will provide a wide range of counseling services to employees (past and present) which include information on:

  • Pension
  • Benefit options
  • Status changes
  • Leaves (such as personal, maternity/parental, retirement)
  • Life insurance and pension options


The Pension and Benefits Advisor also ensures the accuracy of information regarding benefit changes provided to our insurance broker and carriers and ensures the timely gathering, entering and completion of personal employee information for payroll, audit forms and employee files.


Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Meet with new employees and current employees who are changing status to enroll them in the appropriate benefit, life insurance, sick benefit, LTD, pension and vacation plans
  • Review and calculate proof of tours letters
  • Act as the liaison between NBRHC employees, payroll, the hospital and our Brokers, Sun Life Financial and
Desjardins Financial Services

  • Audit employee files for payroll investigations on rate changes
  • Research pension information including buy back with the Hospital of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • Download and prepare reports, including the posting of Seniority Lists and review parttime/fulltime combined lists prior to posting

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a College Diploma in a Human Resources Program, Business Administration or a relevant equivalent discipline
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
  • Minimum two (2) to three (3) years recent experience in a unionized setting, preferably healthcare
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices and governing legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience with benefits and pension administration required
  • Knowledge of benefit carriers and collective agreements
  • Advanced computer skills including full working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Meditech
  • Demonstrated commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
  • Must be able to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in our organization

North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique health care organization with three primary roles: providing acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities, functioning as the district referral centre providing specialist services for smaller communities in the area, and it's the specialized mental health service provider serving all of northeast Ontario.

At more than 400 beds, our state-of-the-art regional health centre has over 150 physicians, 2300 employees and 250 volunteers.
