The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager of Adolescent Intensive Services, and under the direction of the Concurrent Program Team leader, the Social Worker is responsible for the planning and provision of treatment to youth up to the age of 19 years.

As an integral member of the interprofessional team, the Social Worker is a treatment clinician responsible for providing individual, family and group treatment to clients of the Concurrent Program.

The Social Worker provides consultation, guidance, and support to the program as needed, and leads the clinical coordination of treatment plans for clients.

The Social Worker promotes the provision of quality evidence based care to clients and families, participates in program development, and provides leadership to the clinical treatment process.


Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours days, evening work may be necessary to meet needs of clients/families


Your Qualifications:


  • Masters Degree in Social Work required.
  • Currently licensed with, or eligible to be licensed with, the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience as a Masters prepared Social Worker in the field of Adolescent Addictions and/or Mental Health is required. An equivalent of clinical experience may be considered.
  • Successful completion of CPR Level C Health Care Provider course within the last 12 months required.
  • NVCI certification required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing individual, family, and group therapy required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent substance use/misuse required.
  • Demonstrated theoretical knowledge and practice competency in a harm reduction approach required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of treatment implications of mental health issues found concurrently with substance use/gambling required.
  • Working knowledge of CONNECT and Trauma Informed Care preferred.
  • Demonstrated formal supervised clinical experience and skills in the assessment and treatment of youth and families, where a young person is harmfully involved with substance use and/or gambling required.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, evidence informed practice/best practices required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interprofessional care team, while effectively carrying out administrative and clinical responsibilities required.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, workload prioritization, and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in meeting IWK clinical documentation standards preferred.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
