JOB OVERVIEW:


The Construction Safety Coordinator's role is to provide safety support to the Site Superintendent regarding employee safety conduct, work methods, regulation, training, and project site safety on our Construction sites located in Revelstoke.

The CSO assists in planning, organizing, and implementing various health and safety initiatives to support the organizational health and safety program while performing various tasks that improve site safety.


TYPICAL DUTIES:


  • Site inspections to ensure that workers have been provided with essential safety equipment and are using the equipment consistently.
  • Expose potential unsafe conditions in advance thru participation in weekly meetings and prepare safety measures/strategies for them.
  • Conduct project orientations to ensure that new workers have been instructed on company safety standards, procedures, and responsibilities.
  • Provide support in developing custom site safety plans by conducting ongoing site hazard assessments (FLHA's).
  • Assist in the continuous development of the company's Health and Safety program.
  • Conduct incident and accident investigations, and be part of an investigation committee for serious accidents.
  • Organize and participate in site safety meetings, weekly toolbox meetings, ensure signatures of all participants.
  • Coordinate with WCB, etc., for injured workers and their gradual return to work.
  • Ensure administrative aspects of site safety are addressed, i.e., incident corrective actions are documented and completed, all documentation is properly filled out and sent, stored appropriately and that the Site Superintendent and Project Manager are made aware of any deficiencies.
  • Ensure that all coordination activities are completed in a timely manner on site. This will include ensuring that appropriate safety controls are in place during nonroutine work hours (e.g. weekend work).

SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge and understanding of WorkSafe regulations a must, and BCCSA COR requirement knowledge an asset.
  • Minimum Level 2 OFA
  • Equipment & machinery certifications an asset.
  • Strong organizational and people skills, ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability and confidence to instill core safety values internally and to trade contractors.
  • Ability to work efficiently with mínimal direction while leading by example

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and/or be on their feet and walk around majority of the day
  • Use proper lifting techniques for heavy pipes weighing more than 25 kilograms
  • Must be able to work in outdoor weather and/or unregulated temperatures
