Job Summary:


The Program (CANN) Officer provides information, orientation, and referral services to new immigrants, refugees, and temporary foreign workers arriving at the Vancouver International Airport and facilitates the landing process.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Welcomes clients and provides assistance in landing procedures, interpretation, transportation to temporary residence, overnight stay, and connecting flights
  • Conducts need assessments and uses various platforms to provide clientcentered orientation and information on settlement steps, life in Canada, and rights and responsibilities
  • Conducts queue monitoring of airport reception activities
  • Ensures proper documentation processing for clients on applicable items such as Government transportation loans, Interim Federal Health, Single Journey Documents, and Confirmation of Permanent Residence
  • Provides referral services to clients based on individual client needs
  • Collects client data for funder reporting and data entry purposes
  • Provides input and assistance in program development and design
  • Promotes national settlement, community, and government services and events
  • Attends staff meetings and training as assigned
  • Stocks up bulk deliveries of written resource materials
  • Provides input and contributes to the development of CANN publications and electronic materials for clients and ensures accuracy of all materials relating to government, community, settlement services and/or events across Canada
  • Provides translation of materials as necessary
  • Keeps up to date on national immigration and temporary foreign worker related policies, programs and services, events, and shifting trends in client's arrivals
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor

Education, Training and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Social/Human Sciences or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the social services sector
  • Minimum of 2 years' of experience in a social services related sector
  • Experience working with newcomers and diverse clientele
  • Knowledge of settlement and integration processes
  • Knowledge of programs for new immigrants, refugees and temporary foreign workers
  • Knowledge of immigration and foreign worker related trends, policies and resources
  • Knowledge of database and website development is an asset

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Second language relating to the program delivery is considered an asset

  • Able to stay standing for a prolonged period of time
  • Able to be oncall and work extended shifts, split shifts on short notice as required
