Organization Summary:


Empowered by the First Nations Leadership Council and in partnership with the provincial and federal governments, the BC First Nations Justice Council (BCFNJC) is responsible to 203 First Nations in BC.

Our mandate is to reduce the overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system and to support Nations as they move to sovereignty over justice.


The BCFNJC is rapidly growing, and we are seeking team members who understand the gravity of this responsibility and are excited by the opportunity.

Position Summary:


The BCFNJC recruiter will have a grounded understanding of the diversity of Indigenous communities and cultures within what is now known as BC and will ensure the organization supports a workforce that is representative of clients seeking BCFNJC services.


This position will work under strategic Human Resources goals to support not only BCFNJC's rapid growth, but also a sustainable, representative, and qualified workforce.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Advise managers and employees on staffing policies and procedures.
  • Develop, evaluate, and continuously improve recruitment practices and services.
  • Advise management on organizing, preparing, and implementing recruiting and retention programs.
  • Assist with the development of hiring tools.
  • Maintain an inventory of qualified external applicants.
  • Contact applicants to inform them of the status of their employment possibilities, consideration, and selection.
  • Extend employment offers to applicants and authorize paperwork, assigning them to positions.
  • Collect all required Background Check Authorization Forms, to conduct reference and background checks on applicants.
  • Inform the development of culturally appropriate recruitment and marketing materials.
  • Engage and build relationships with educational institutions, include Indigenous student services to attract students to BCFNJC's opportunities.
  • Recruit applicants for open positions, making public presentations regarding the organization and job opportunities; coordinating staff participation, set up, and work at job fairs.
  • Project yearly recruitment expenditures for budgetary consideration and control.
  • Create job descriptions.
  • Lead the creation of a recruiting and interviewing plan for each open position.
  • Efficiently and effectively fill open positions.
  • Conduct regular followup with managers to determine the effectiveness of recruiting plans and implementation.
  • Utilize the Internet for recruitment, post positions to appropriate Internet sources.
  • Attend internal leadership meetings.
  • Provide information on company, facilities, job opportunities and realistic job previews to potential applicants, as necessary.
  • Conduct prescreening interviews.
  • Offer and subsequently coordinate 2nd Interviews with Managers of programs when needed.
  • Prepare and compile administrative documents required before a new employee's scheduled orientation.
  • Coordinate all internal recruitment processes including job posting, transfers or promotion of selected employees ensuring all applicable standards in hiring are met.
  • Assist in writing and forwarding rejection letters.
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Develop and execute recruiting plans.

Qualifications and Work Experience:


  • HR Diploma or Business Degree with a Human Resources focus.
  • A relevant diploma or undergraduate degree (A nonrelated degree and experience, in combination with a professional designation (e.g., CPHR), will be considered)
  • 35 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Experience of interviewing and using selection tools
  • Knowledge of First Nations history, current context, and processes of colonialism.
  • Lived or living experience and/or cultural expertise or knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples, Nations, and Communities
  • Ability to travel throughout the province and to remote communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A clear criminal record check will be a condition of employment.
  • Good training, coaching, and active listening skills are essential.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with organization departments, external community partners, partner organizations, and employees.
  • Knowledge of cost analysis, fiscal management, and budgeting techniques a must.
  • Excellent in all MS Office (focus on Excel and PP)
  • Outstanding interviewing skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet departmental targets.

Reporting:
This position reports to a Regional HR Manager or Designate

Westbank Head Office, any BCFNJC Indigenous Justice Centre, or Remote
