The Opportunity


We are looking for experienced, creative, and dynamic individuals to deliver and teach on-site (in person) courses in the Early Childhood Education (ECE1-G) Program in the School of Community Studies, for the Winter 2024 term.


Subjects to be taught include:

  • Foundations of Early Childhood Education
  • Emotional Development & Early Relations
  • Introduction to Child Development
  • Interpersonal Development
  • ECE Field Orientation

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Designs and delivers student-centered learning:


  • Delivers core curriculum as defined in program charter
  • Develops weekly class sessions, activities and assignments which highlight the core curriculum and related topics
  • Provides inclass instruction through a variety of creative and engaging approaches, creating opportunities for student success
  • Integrates current best practices and industryfocused material into class discussion and assignments

Enables student outcomes:


  • Defines and communicates clear expectations about student progress through the learning journey
  • Provides instruction that fosters student achievement of course and program outcomes
  • Provides both formal and informal feedback (including marking of assessments) that clearly indicates the student's progress through the material
  • Identifies students who are struggling, and intervenes to address roadblocks and challenges
  • Identifies resources that support better student outcomes and directs students to those resources
  • Helps students solve problems that may impede successful program completion through advising, assisting, and/or referring students on academic or personal matters
  • Ensures that learning activities are conducive to active student learning
  • Establishes a classroom environment conducive to collaborative learning
  • Ensures that activities encourage active student involvement and monitors student participation
  • Notes, intervenes, and escalates any case of academic misconduct, harassment or violation of the student code of conduct

Fulfills administrative duties_:

  • Keeps accurate records
  • Submits grade and other reports on time
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required skills, experience & education

Education & Qualifications:


  • Current member in good standing (or eligible to register) with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator)
  • Minimum 4year degree in a related field (e.g., Bachelor of Early Learning and Development, Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies, Bachelor of Applied Science
  • Child, Youth and Family (Child Stream)/Child Studies. etc.)
  • Child Welfare experience and be able to provide a traumainformed approach to curriculum and pedagogy

Work experience:


  • Significant experience (minimum 35 years) in providing direct, child and family centered work using a variety of modalities, with individuals, families and groups from diverse populations
  • Proven experience building meaningful relationships, providing client intakes or assessments, crisis intervention and trauma informed practice,
  • Experience planning, delivering, and evaluating developmentally appropriate programs
    , early childhood education & related schoolage programs and services
  • Practical experience supporting social justice, equity and advocacy and experience working with, and an understanding of, issues impacting outcomes for systemically excluded populations
  • Knowledge related to the complex health and social needs, issues, and challenges faced by individuals, families and communities
  • Understanding of the local early childhood education programs, services and systems
  • Experience working in an interprofessional and multidisciplinary environment
  • Child Welfare experience

Teaching experience:


  • Successful teaching experience at a postsecondary level (minimum 3 years) with demonstrated commitment to experiential teaching and learning approaches,
  • Successful experience as a facilitator in the field
  • Able to provide a traumainformed approach to curriculum and pedagogy
