About the role:


Canadian Blood Services is looking for a
Temporary full-time
Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic
Innovation & Portfolio Management team.


The
Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing technical assistance and maintaining the laboratory, all laboratory equipment and test instruments.


Formula for success:


  • Drawing on your knowledge or experience in laboratory functions, you will receive, inspect, store and prepare donor samples according to approved work instructions.
  • Operate equipment required in the sample preparation and other processes.
  • Ensure working area is maintained in an orderly and safe manner. Use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and environmental conditions in the lab.
  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Canadian Blood Services' Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

Desired education and skills:


  • Completion of secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably with a science background.
  • Minimum 2 years of related laboratory experience.
  • Able to work independently.
  • The ability to function as part of a lab team and demonstrate regular attendance is required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Shifts/hours must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays when required.
  • Physical requirements ability to lift weight up to 10 kg (22 lbs.)
