What you will do

You will be a part of the Immigrant Services and YMCA Community Programs including EarlyOn, Employment Services and Youth Programs. You will work alongside the School Settlement Team supporting newcomer families and students integrate into and succeed in the school system. You will work in partnership with the leader of School Settlement Services, school boards, Communtiy Partners and YMCA Youth team. You will work along side youth themselves, to develop programming, events, resources and activities to meet the needs of refugee and immigrant youth community wide.

You will be support positive relationship building with both internal YMCA partners and external community organizations to coordinate opportunities for refugee youth that have recently arrived to Canada. You will support with the delivery and organization of workshops on topics around school readiness, life skills, conflict management, wellbeing and others. You will also support communtiy connection activities with partner agencies so youth are connected to their communtiy and aware of the opportunities they have in Canada to get involved. At times you may work with parents to provide them with the information and orientation they need to support their children You will be committed to ensuring that the youth programs are a safe, inclusive and engaging space for all youth, while building trusting relationships with youth directly in programs.

What you will bring
**Ideally, you will have experience working with school-aged children and youth from 4-21 years of age. You will have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience leading a team, and will have knowledge of the unique needs of the youth and resources available to them within our communities. You have post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Recreation & Leisure, Social Sciences or a related field, or experience equivalent. You will have excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, in addition to strong interpersonal skills needed to build positive relationships. You will have a passion for meaningfully engaging with youth, to meeting them where they are at, ensuring they feel heard, welcomed and supported in YMCA Programs.


You have up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification (or are willing to obtain) and the successful completion of Vulnerable Police Records Check within the last 6 months.
