    Description

    Job Description

    • Provide first-aid treatment, urgent and episodic care to employees for injuries and illnesses.
    • Work with Supervisors and Department Managers to create return to work and modified work plans for injured employees. Including assessing the effectiveness of modified duties for injured employees.
    • Maintain case log for workplace injuries outlining treatment plan and perform regular check ins with employees on modified duties.
    • Perform on the job follow-up and assessment and work with the Safety Manager and HR Manager to adjust modified duties as needed.
    • Contact employees to get updated medical documentation when needed.
    • Assist in communications with WCB for claims management purposes.
    • Assist in compliance with OHS and OSHA programs, such as hearing conservation, respirator fit testing, certificate training, first aid training and blood borne pathogen program.
    • Perform regular assessments of AED kits and first aid kits to ensure they are compliant with safety regulations.
    • Maintain health care unit inventory of supplies.
    • Coordinate and implement employee wellness program, including educational initiatives.
    • Assist with administration of non-occupational disability management program.
    • Assist with facilitating referrals in collaboration with physicians.
    • Implement treatment plans that incorporate therapeutic exercise, modalities and work conditioning as necessary.
    • Assist with ergonomic job analyses, including task analysis, risk factor identification and quantification, posture analysis, and body mechanics analysis.
    • Use innovation, creative solutions and employee empowerment to design and/or implement ergonomics interventions including job risk assessments, biomechanical assessments, job coaching, risk mitigation and flex/pre-shift stretching program.
    • Create a caring and trusting environment, which allows workers to take responsibility to reduce or eliminate actions or behaviors under their control that contribute to injury and illness.
    • Communicate regularly with safety personnel regarding care and injury prevention activities.
    • Author articles for various newsletters and the company Intranet site as requested.
    • Physical demands analysis and creation.
    • Update and monitor health and wellness information hub.
    • Promote an interdisciplinary approach to health care and advocate for the employee's right to prevention-oriented, cost-effective health and safety programs.
    • Encourage workers to take responsibility for their own health through health education and disease management programs, such as smoking cessation, exercise/fitness, nutrition and weight control, stress management, control of chronic illnesses and effective use of medical services.
    • Participate in safety programs as a member of the EHSS Pillar.
    • Lead in the active engagement of all employees in safety related activities.
    • Participate in efforts to ensure the plant operates in compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations and established standards. Act as a liaison for the Company to regulatory agencies when needed.
    • Participate in efforts to have adequate emergency response action and response plans and ensure adequate training of responders.

    Basic & Preferred Qualifications

    • Registered Nurse or closely related field degree (Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Athletic Training) required.
    • 5-8 years' experience in nursing.
    • 2-3 years' experience in occupational health and wellness environment preferred.
    • Extensive knowledge of health-related legislation under OHS, OSHA, WCB and other relevant regulatory bodies. Must be in good standing and registered with the applicable regulatory bodies.
    • Must have and maintain coverage of all legally mandated professional liability protection insurance through a recognized insurer, such as the Canadian Nurse Protective Society or Alberta Association of Nurses.
    • Must be up to date in all industry and professional registration, certification and training as required to work as a registered nurse (RN) in Alberta.
    • Must comply with registration requirements, governance, discipline and competence guidelines provided in the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulation, the Health Professions Restricted Activity Regulation and the Health Information Act.
