Summary:_


Variety is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic individual to lead and develop the Variety Village Flames into a renowned and prestigious, inclusive swim team.

The Head Coach will utilize coaching techniques and leadership skills, with the support of assistant coaches, to create a growth mindset environment that helps swimmers achieve their potential.

The coaching staff will work collaboratively to build and achieve both individual and team goals. The Head Coach is also responsible for ensuring a safe environment for all swim team participants and staff.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:_

Programming_

  • Adapting and implementing individualbased programming, including yearly, monthly, and weekly training plans tailored to the growth and development needs of paraathletes' and athletes who are able bodied.
  • Developing progression plans for athletes grassroots or competitive.
  • Creating team, coach, and volunteer schedules.
  • Mentoring coaching staff on best practices when teaching youth with physical disabilities technical skill development.
  • Establishing and maintaining communication with athletes, parents, guardians, Variety staff and volunteers.
  • Providing leadership, feedback and support to Assistant, Grassroots Coaches and Volunteers.
  • Responsible for program development, design and delivery.
  • Assisting with swim meet coordination and entries, annual team budget, and athlete assessments, etc.
  • Providing media content to the communication's department.
  • Recording and maintaining a database of swim times for Variety Village athletes and become aware of Provincial and National times.
  • Ensuring that safety is at the forefront of all activities, in and out of the pool.
  • Adhering to Variety policies and protocols, including Health & Safety, AODA, and Plan to Protect requirements.
  • Participating in Variety inservice training sessions.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Competition_

  • Organizing and managing the schedules for all swim meets, including assigning coaches and athletes to specific meets.
  • Creating and overseeing Variety Village athletes and swim competition schedules.
  • Potential to coordinate in house meets with officials for precompetitive, grassroots and Flames swim team participants.
  • Attending competitions and camps as required.

  • Opportunities to participate in workshops and professional development within Swim Ontario, Swimming Canada and Coaching organizations to support our goal of becoming an innovative, highprofile, inclusive team.
  • Potential to research on sportspecific and disabilityspecific information to support positive outcomes for participants.
  • Pursuing relevant training, certifications, and ongoing development related to the program and position responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications and Key Competencies:_

  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, AED.
  • NCCP coaching certificates and or interested enrolling and obtaining certification (s).
  • Experience, knowledge, and awareness in pool and swim safety.
  • Positive mindset and approach to coaching.
  • Experience coaching individuals with varied mobility, skill, experience and exposure.
  • Available for all scheduled practices and swim meets.
  • Member of the Ontario Swim Coaches Association an asset.
  • Experience with HyTec and Meet Manager is an asset.
  • Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Reliable transportation is essential for timely arrival at all practices and meets.
