INDIGENOUS COUNSELLOR

STUDENT SERVICES


NorQuesters are difference makers and we're searching for someone who is passionate about making a difference in our student's success to join our Wellness team as an Indigenous Counsellor in a full-time capacity, split between two campuses, Wetaskiwin and Edmonton.


HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Provide evidencebased mental health support in accordance with provincial regulating body standards of practice (CAP, ACSW).
  • Provide Indigenous based inperson and virtual crisis and dropin counselling to atrisk students
  • Actively participate, as a multidisciplinary Wellness Team member, to ensure best practices and student safety.
  • Participate and/or lead Wellness Team mental health initiatives and projects that support NorQuest's Indigenous students.
  • Provide classroom presentations on mental health topics.
  • Liaise and coordinate with Indigenous Centre, Elders and cultural advisors.
  • Engage in scholarly activity/research/continuing education to support best practices and excellence in student mental health service delivery
  • Participate in transition to employment (TEP) admission processes by reviewing psychoeducational assessment and conducting suitability interviews.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the College in support of student mental health and a mentally healthy learning community.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Master's in Counselling Psychology, Master's in Educational Psychology, or Graduate Degree in Counseling Psychology, Educational Psychology, or Clinical Social Work.
  • Registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists or Alberta College of Social Workers, or eligibility for registration.
  • Telehealth Training Certificate.
  • 5+ years of experience providing mental health counselling.
  • Indigenous Ancestry and extensive experience working in Indigenous communities, counselling and sharing Indigenous cultural knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience in a postsecondary environment is an asset.
  • Experience with
- providing trauma informed psychosocial interventions, crisis counselling and risk assessment
- working with diverse client groups, using an intercultural lens
- interpreting psychoeducational assessments and functional impacts
- working with online processes and file management systems
- developing/delivering resources to support positive mental health for groups
- working in a multidisciplinary setting
- providing professional consultation
- leading/managing projects
- training on supporting individuals impacted by sexual violence
- fostering collaborative, positive working relationships

SALARY:
Reflective upon what you bring, AKA your education and experience. This is a Faculty role and therefore the pay range is quite large. The Faculty Association agreement outlines how pay is determined.

This is a full-time permanent position with immediate access to our great benefits and pension programs.

This role will require regular on-campus work at our downtown Edmonton campus.
