Quality Assurance Technician

Job Summary:
Duties:
- To provide assistance/guidance with various departments in the production of our products while ensuring that quality and food safety is maintained.
- To assist in the writing of revising and implementing of policies, procedures and SOP's.
- To perform environmental testing (training will be provided).
- To gain knowledge in HACCP (training to be provided).
- Interpret and implement quality assurance standards.
- Conduct and monitor testing and inspection of materials and products to ensure finished product quality and record findings.
- Collect samples and prepare them for shipment.
- Document internal audits and other quality assurance activities.
- Perform GMP and product checks (SOPs) daily
- Conduct sampling of finished product and raw materials, submit samples to microbiology lab for testing and followup on any nonconforming results.
- Conduct preoperational inspection
- Perform individual projects/tasks as assigned.
- Data entry and maintenance of department records.
- Conduct internal audits in accordance with schedules
- Identify areas of improving processes related to HACCP
- Comply with company policies, procedure and safety requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, Standard Operating Procedures & Good Manufacturing Practice.
- Strong sense of teamwork and ability to work with diverse group of individuals including upper management and the ability to develop positive working relationships.
- Preferably with at least 23 years' experience in a similar position ideally in the meat processing facility.
- HACCP Certification, Food Science or Microbiologist background is an asset.
- Organizational skills and strong ability to multitask. Ability to establish priorities in multiple areas
- Must be able to perform under pressure and adhere to deadlines
- Detailed oriented analytical thinker with strong communication/training skills.
- Ability to work varied shifts
- Must have reliable transportation
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Programs.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal & written)
- Understanding of CFIA
- Understanding of the slaughter process, meat science, and factors that affect meat product quality.
- Microbiological work including swabbing, plating, and interpreting results.
- Knowledge of environmental water sampling techniques and the interpretation of results.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, reading, writing, talking & computer use.
- Ability to walk over unstable terrain to collect and carry samples.
- Ability to climb ladders and go up and down steep steps.
- Ability to bend, crouch, and lift product and equipment off the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 20kgs.
- Ability to handle and work in a high stress environment.
Work Environment:
- Fast paced environment with continuous interruptions and distractions.
- Office, creating SOPs, Analyzing and Interpreting Data, Responding to customer requests and complaints.
- In production as part of verification processes. Must be able to work in an environment with live animals, the slaughter of those animals, blood, fecal/ingesta, bugs/pests, and extremely bad smells etc.
