Description
Contributes to the development, co-ordination, implementation and effective operation of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Program.Provides a clinical leadership role to the IPAC program and employs knowledge of best practice literature along with critical appraisal of current research to develop, evaluate and manage surveillance, education and quality improvement projects within the IPAC program.
Advances innovation and creativity within the IPAC program. Teaches and reinforces infection control best practice policies and procedures to all levels of health care providers. Consultant to in-hospital departments and committees on matters related to infection prevention and control.All roles are essential in providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and others by ensuring that health and safety policies are followed.
Works collaboratively with the home IPAC leadContributes to the development and support of, and adheres to Caressant Care philosophy, standards, policies, and procedures.
Actively participates on the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
Provides education to staff, students and volunteers in all disciplines proactively and as requested.
Assists with surveillance, outbreak management and other routine activities within the IPAC team.
Maintains active involvement in construction design and activities by recommending environmental controls to reduce the risk of construction related nosocomial infections.
Other duties as assigned based on emerging and changing organizational and program priorities.
Assumes responsibility for own performance and continuing education.
Complies with Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
Qualifications:
University preparation in a health related discipline or equivalent required.
Completion of an IPAC Canada endorsed Infection Prevention and Control post-secondary course or equivalent
Certificate in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) required
Minimum 5 years experience in Infection Prevention and Control in a healthcare setting
Knowledge of microbiology and current infection control practices.
Leadership, teaching, critical thinking and problem solving skills
Knowledge of quality improvement tools and techniques
Project development, management and evaluation skills
Excellent communication skills, including written and oral communication
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent presentation and knowledge translation skills.
