The Opportunity:

Equitable Life is growing, and we are looking for an Associate Underwriting Consultant to join our team Working at a medium sized company allows you to stretch your risk-management skills build relationships and contribute to specialized projects in both traditional and data-based underwriting.

What you will do:


  • Mentoring and cosigning for underwriters
  • Consistently provide a superior quality of work
  • Provide a firstclass client experience
  • Participate in traditional and databased projects
  • Assess claims, rescissions and reinstatements
  • Advocate for the continuous enhancement of the profession of underwriting
  • Prepare, present and lead development opportunities for our Distribution partners, colleagues, internal and external business partners
  • Some travel may be required

What you will bring:


  • Superior technical knowledge in medical, financial, and nonmedical underwriting
  • Comfortable in a dynamic work environment with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Overall curiosity in all that you do
  • Fluency in using data as an underwriting tool or the willingness to learn
  • Owners mindset for meeting individual and team goals
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Strong reinsurance relationships with excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal[CS1]
  • Excellent relationship skills a proactive mindset is key
  • College or University degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of demonstrated professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter
  • FLMI / FALU designation or currently working towards it
  • Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
