What do you offer?


The YMCA Build ON Pre-Arrival Service provides guidance and individualized consultation to individuals selected to immigrate to Canada who plan to pursue employment in the Skilled Trades, Engineering and Construction sectors.

The program offers a variety of online resources, which include but are not limited to sector specific workshops and training, job readiness tools, assessment, job search strategies, workplace preparation, and certification information.

The Employment Consultant is responsible for the facilitation of the training, job search support for clients, case management of clients and creation, maintenance and development of curriculum and training tools.

In addition, Employment Consultants are responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records/statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken/outcomes achieved, and assist with the promotion/marketing of the overall project and mentorship components to the community.


Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Facilitating training and job search support for clients.
  • Creating and managing cases for each client.
  • Maintaining and developing curriculum and training tools.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely records, statistics and evaluation information related to the activities undertaken.
  • Assisting with the promotion and marketing of the overall project and mentorship components to the community.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

Education

  • Postsecondary education or equivalent in a related field

Language

  • Fluent in English and French, oral and written

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with course facilitation
  • Knowledge of trades, apprenticeship, construction, and engineering in Ontario
  • Knowledge of immigration legislation and policy
  • Knowledge of community resources in Ontario
  • Problem solving and creative skills to contribute to the development of the program and improve the service delivery
  • Strong computer literacy

Additional Requirements:


  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
