Role:
Mechanical Failure Mode Scientist


As a Mechanical Failure Mode Scientist (MFMS) at Svante, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and performance of our core technologies.

You will analyze data and collaborate with our characterization team and external partners to assess the mechanical stability of our core technologies and its impact on process performance.

Your expertise in material and mechanical analysis, combined with your ability to effectively manage complex programs, will be critical to the success of this role.


In this role, you will be responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive mechanical lifetime program, working closely with other scientists (e.g., Chemical Failure Mode Scientist) and specialists (e.g., Data Integration Specialist) to develop a thorough understanding of the lifetime of our core technologies.

You will support the optimization efforts of our sorbent, active material, structured adsorbent bed, and process teams, ensuring that our technologies deliver consistent, reliable results.


As the technical lead for our core technologies mechanical degradation and failure, you must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with a large network of experts.

Your ability to deliver results in a cooperative, team-focused manner using a Lean culture will be essential.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


  • Assess and analyze the mechanical stability of Svante's core technologies to identify failure modes and impact on process performance.
  • Develop, implement, and execute test plans and test methods.
  • Analyze and manage all relevant data related to the mechanical lifetime of Svante's core technologies.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to resolve mechanical stability issues.
  • Prepare technical reports, and provide technical support and recommendations to R&D and Product teams to improve product quality and performance.

Key Qualifications:


  • Ph.
D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related fields.

  • A minimum of 58 years of experience with advanced materials such as composites, nanomaterials, or biomaterials, and the unique challenges they pose in terms of mechanical behavior and structureproperty correlations.
  • Strong knowledge of materials science, with a deep understanding of the principles of mechanical behavior and material properties, including failure mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in using mechanical testing equipment and software, and in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience in using microscopy and image analysis techniques to visualize and quantify the microstructure and morphology of materials.
  • Experience in performing structureproperty correlations and statistical analysis to identify and understand the factors that affect mechanical behavior.
  • Experience in using CAD software, finite element analysis (FEA) software and other simulation tools to model and analyze mechanical behavior based on microstructural features.
  • Knowledge in gas adsorption and separation an asset.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work with crossfunctional teams and external partners.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow rigorous laboratory testing protocols
  • Safetyoriented with the ability to measure risks before acting
