**Nutritional Services Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Nutritional Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supervising a team of volunteers to operate kitchen activities for the provision of meal service for residents, as well as other Hospice-related nutritional requirements.

The Nutritional Services Coordinator is responsible to oversee that all food is handled with care and properly stored, and that sanitary conditions are maintained.

Additionally, this individual ensures that all health and safety standards are met and continually reinforced, and all equipment is maintained in good, safe working order.

This individual will work in a safe manner and will promote the safety of all co-workers, volunteers, residents, families, clients and visitors.


Key accountabilities of this position include:

  • Orientate and train new kitchen volunteers, including food safety training and to reinforce proper safe food handling procedures are followed.
  • Collaborate with Scheduling Coordinator to ensure kitchen volunteer shifts are covered and communicate with the Volunteer Services Coordinator and Director, Resident Care any scheduling concerns.
  • Assist with kitchen volunteer evaluations, on an annual basis.
  • Consult with families and residents re: diet, food tolerance, likes and dislikes, and update daily diet sheet with this information, and also to provide any special food requests.
  • Prepare weekly resident dinner menu; keep daily record of meals prepared.
  • Organize supplies and grocery schedule and coordinate product purchasing and delivery.
  • Organize cleaning and sanitation schedule, check chemical supplies.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance schedule (i

e grease trap cleaning:
weekly treatments and twice annual clean out; refrigerator/freezer coil cleaning; ice machine filter changes)

  • Organize and coordinate Community Holiday dinners and Bereavement Socials (Supportive Care).
  • Organize and run monthly "Connecting through Cooking" classes (Supportive Care)
  • Organize and coordinate all catering for extra functions as required.
  • Communicate concerns from families and residents to the Director, Resident Care or designate.
  • Liaise with Middlesex London Health Unit Inspector for monthly inspections; perform any corrective actions as advised including refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring and adjustments. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

  • Diploma in Food Service Management
  • Advanced Food Safety Certification
  • Must be able to function with mínimal supervision
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in food services in a health care setting preferred
  • Experience working in a supervisory capacity preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers an asset
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills consistent with the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph's Hospice
