Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsible for determining scheduling priorities for trades work to be completed, helps plan and implement workflow for the unit, supports to foster positive relationships with the campus community, resolves service complaints on time, assists with oversight of operating budgets by monitoring accounts for projects and/or programs and analyzes and recommends material and/or equipment for capital purchases.

Also, responsible for providing orientation to students, new employees, or colleagues on work procedures and practices, and provides formal job-related coaching, as well as safety training and ensuring compliance to occupational safety precautions.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with key university stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance management and human resources
  • Knowledge of facility operations and access services program design, delivery assessment, and evaluation methodologies, processes, and practices
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments and divisions
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet competency, disciplinespecific software, banner
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
  • Knowledge of MAXIMO or FMP computerized management maintenance system will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Occupational Health & Safety regulations, regulations for hazardous material (mould/asbestos) control, and Ontario Building and Fire Codes is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrated budget management and project management skills
  • Analytical ability
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to exercise patience, tact, diplomacy and discretion

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • College Diploma with honours in building sciences, or facilities management preferably with certification of BOMA/IREM or as a CET
  • Minimum of 5 years' related experience overseeing the work of contractors, subtrades, and consultants in a facilities management environment.
