Regional Consultation Coordinator - Region 2

Location:
Bonnyville, AB


Position Status:
Permanent Full-Time (40 hrs per week)

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities


The Regional Consultation Coordinator will report to and receive instructions from the Director of Consultation and MNA leadership in Region 2.


Duties include:

  • Respond to notices for consultation.
  • Input industry notifications into tracking software.
  • Streamline consultation workflow to meet the unique requirements of Region
  • Manage the consultation process.
  • Prepare consultation work plans.
  • Negotiate with proponents for budgets in support of the consultation process.
  • Undertake research or field studies as required.
  • Coordinate and conduct community engagement in support of the consultation process.
  • Negotiate accommodations for the benefit of the Region 2 Métis Community.
  • Review reports and other materials and provide briefings and memos on consultation files, as required.
  • Prepare updates and reports on consultation files, as needed. This could include preparing monthly and projectbased reporting to the Director of Consultation and Region 2 leadership.
  • Participate in meetings, both internally and externally.

Skills & Competencies
The RCC must possess excellent communication, writing and organizational skills.

The RCC will ultimately manage the consultation process to ensure that Métis communities within Region 2 have an opportunity for meaningful consultation to raise concerns and discuss potential mitigation options.


Other skills and qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of federal and provincial Indigenous consultation requirements.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessments and Federal Bills C68 and C6
  • Knowledge and experience in Métis rights.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture and people.
  • Ability to work with Elders and, at intermittent times, have the fitness and ability to operate in the bush to conduct Traditional Land Use studies and projects.
  • Ability to identify and respond to sensitive community, organizational, and provincial council issues, concerns, and needs.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to work well with community members.
  • Strong political sensitivity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and partners.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, interpret and convey positions appropriately.
  • Selfstarter with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Exercise discretion in handling confidential and politically sensitive information.
  • Ability to remain organized, multitask, and manage time effectively under tight and competing deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a University Bachelor's Degree in a related field (such as Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Native Studies, Political Science, or Public Administration) supplemented by 4 years of directly related experience is required. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using the Microsoft Office suite of software and an aptitude for learning new software.
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is an asset.
  • Experience working in government or with government policies is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position will be based in Bonnyville.
  • Some travel within Alberta is a requirement. Additional, less frequent, outofprovince travel may also occur, with notice.
  • Must have a driver's license and an operational vehicle.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends if needed.
