Eh&s Specialist - Burnaby, Canada - Ballard Power Systems
Description
Ballard's Operations department has a position available for a EH&S Specialist in the Burnaby Head Office.The EH&S Specialist will report directly to the Director, EH&S and will be responsible for a variety of tasks focusing on the improvement of environment and health & safety programs in North America.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate active, visible and professional environmental health and safety leadership at all times
- Assist with the improvement of Ballard's Corporate Environment and Health & Safety Management Systems, including EH&S goals and initiatives
- Assist with the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety Systems Data base, including data entry and module development
- Deliver training through in person and web based methods Participate in regular EH&S inspections
- Perform preliminary Occupational Hygiene testing; Noise surveys, Light surveys
- Assist the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans
- Provide resources for Preliminary Hazard Assessments (PHAs)
- Participate in formal EH&S reviews of existing equipment modifications, new equipment purchases, and changes in site processes
- Assist claims management and return to work programs
- Participate in internal audit teams (regulatory, Occupational Safety Standard of Excellence, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and others as required)
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, EH&S
Requirements:
- Completion of Health and Safety Diploma program at BCIT or similar program in a related field
- 13 years of related experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to work respectfully and efficiently with a wide range of people from different cultures and educational backgrounds
- Proficiency using Microsoft office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical skills, organizational, problem solving and judgement abilities and ability to complete reports.
- Experience with WorkSafeBC and OSHA regulations
- Good understanding of Controlled products regulations
- Ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions to complex issues
- Ability to travel ~10% of the time
- Experience in a lab environment is an asset
