Take your Next Step with Irving Shipbuilding We are looking for Local 1 Labourers at the Halifax Shipyard who interested in becoming a Metal Fabricator, Apprentice.

This is an internal opportunity for current Labourers in our Services department. Those selected will participate in the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) program.

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking
10 Metal Fabricator, Apprentices for this opportunity.


Qualifications - Education, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Member of Local 1 (Halifax Shipyard Site). Currently a Labourer/Services employee
  • Minimum of one (1) year of service with Irving Shipbuilding
  • Have an acceptable attendance record (absenteeism rate must be at or below the Halifax Shipyard average for the 12 months prior to Competition Open Date)
  • Clean disciplinary record (no active discipline on file)
  • Physical ability to perform all aspects of the role
  • Ability to perform shift work in accordance with the Collective Agreement
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Work well with others in a team environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Excellent safety record and ability to strictly adhere to Company safety procedures
  • Able to progress through the Apprenticeship program and achieve Red Seal certification as outlined by the NSAA.
