Job Summary:

Do you have a strong attention to detail and a desire to ensure products retain the highest quality standards? If so, become a valuable member of our team as a Metallurgical Lab Technician

In this role you play an important role in the industry.

Responsible for testing metals to ensure that they meet the required standards and specifications, and to diagnose and troubleshoot any potential problems.

The technicians use a variety of tools and techniques such as spectrographs, microscopes and other resources available to them.


The results of these tests help to determine the quality of the metals and if they are suitable for specific uses.

If the results reveal any flaws or deficiencies, the technicians can then work to identify the cause and develop solutions to remedy the issue.

This role requires a presence both in the laboratory as well as on the production floor where you will be filling data into specified charts and input your reporting.


By ensuring the quality and safety of metals, metallurgical lab technicians help to maintain the efficiency and productivity of our operations.

We are looking for productive, organized, goal-oriented individuals who are willing to learn.


Core Responsibilities:
_Include but are not limited to,_

  • Receive incoming steel, cast, and pig iron. Inspect loads visually for nonconformance.
  • Analyze Spectrometer and record data in ERP system.
  • Make charge recipe and adjust based on Spectrometer and Datacast result.
  • Audit charging/pouring procedures and report to management.
  • Determine alloy additions for product being made and ensure conformance.
  • Prepare and analyze microstructure samples.
  • Run and monitor heat treat oven and record data.
  • Perform AFS sand testing everyday.
  • Monitor and record Hartley sand controllers hourly.
  • Prepare daily melting summary, monthly consumption, and daily inventory report.
  • Keep work area clean & organized.
  • Availability for overtime if needed.

Physical Demands:

Working within a foundry environment can be physically demanding. This position will spend majority of time in the manufacturing floor.

Must be able to withstand the physical pressures of constant standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, sitting, and heat.


Shift:


-Monday to Friday (8 hours)

-Rotating Shift (Rotation Every 2 weeks)

Days (6:45 AM - 3:15 PM)
-
Evenings (2:45 PM - 11:15 PM)
-
Nights (10:45 PM - 7:15 AM)

What We Are Looking For:


  • Completion of an accredited Laboratory Technology program or Post secondary education in a related filed. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Punctual and reliable attendance.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Basic ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Problem solving skills
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
