CORE FUNCTIONS
The
_Personal Support Worker (P.S.W.) _is a key member of the therapeutic team within the Home. His/her functions are directed by input from the Registered Nurse and a written care plan. The
_P.S.W.

_promotes the Residents' quality of life and assists them to maximize their full potential by:

Assisting in the provision of care to meet the personal care, activation, recreation, environmental and spiritual needs of the Resident
Supporting the Resident's independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural wellbeing
Working from the written care plan developed by the Registered Nurse
Initiating and maintaining a relationship with Resident/Family and other care providers in the Home
Familiarity with and facilitating the R.E.S.T. Philosophy

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

Education:

High School graduate preferred
Have successfully completed the Personal Support Worker course at an approved institution
Have recent working experience with the physically and cognitively impaired elderly in a health care setting
Annual CPR update; BCLS
Good physical and mental health
Familiarity with "Commitment to Residents" and "Code of Ethics" as set out by ORCA training program
Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing regulations, practices and procedures
