Under the general supervision of the Traffic Signals Engineer, The Traffic Signals Accounts Clerk is responsible for maintaining and processing all bookkeeping, accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, work order functions, and tasks related to the Traffic Signals Branch.


As the
_Clerk B - Traffic Signals Accounts Clerk,_
you will:

  • Monitor and report all financial transactions of the branch for both operating and capital funds.
  • Issue work orders, requests for service, work order costing; prepare billing and/or journal entries as required for services rendered by the Traffic Signals Branch, including processing damage claims; reconcile Work Order costs and operating costs with PeopleSoft General Ledger.
  • Prepare invoices for external projects using Public Works Billing System.
  • Prepare Progress Payments for the Underground Contractor, maintaining documentation of all uptodate payments and holdbacks.
  • Communicate effectively with various levels of City staff and external vendors.
  • Maintain filing systems (electronic and/or paper copies).
  • Respond to enquiries from other departments and external vendors.
  • Maintain various Excel files and reconciliations.
  • Provide clerical support.
  • Prepare and process damage claims
  • Provide backup to Clerk B
  • Traffic Signals Timekeeping position.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Grade 12 education along with training in bookkeeping or accounting from a recognized school of accountancy or commerce, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing accounting reports and data with working knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, purchasing, and accounts payable.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft HR Time & Labour modules, and Finance modules would be an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and basic working level in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Access.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and uptodate accounting records.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands in a fastpaced work environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with the general public, contractors, and other civic staff.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to convey information to a variety of audiences in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of the Department and Branch operations would be an asset.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends in emergent situations.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
