Lynwood Charlton Centre (LCC) is a publicly funded charitable organization in the City of Hamilton which provides a spectrum of innovative and evidence-based, mental health services, including residential, day treatment, community-based services including in-home and school-based services, to children, youth, families and the community.
The Centre is funded and licensed by the Ministry for Children and Youth Services and accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation.
Role Overview
Working under the direction of the Program Manager, the Weekend Cook is responsible to prepare, bake, cook, and serve nutritionally balanced meals of quantity to meet the requirements of the agency residents, staff, and visitors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan the daily menu in consultation with the Program Manager according to Canada Food Guidelines.
- Prepare, cook and serve meals for residents and staff according to the menu.
- Prepare special meals for children who are ill or those with special dietary requirements as required.
- Prepare and serve special occasion meals (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and designated agency functions) and cakes for birthdays, holidays and special events.
- Ensure that the kitchen, dining rooms and storage cupboards meet the hygienic requirements set by the Department of Health.
- Maintain the kitchen equipment and facilities in good working condition by regularly scheduled checks and cleaning.
- Daily cleaning of the kitchen.
- Determine food ordering requirements within the limits of the annual budget.
- Maintain an ongoing inventory of stock.
- Other related duties as assigned
Experience/Skills Required
- A minimum of 3 years' experience as a head cook, preferably in an institutional setting.
- Experience using a variety of kitchen equipment and appliances required.
- Experienced in planning, preparing and serving meals of quality and quantity.
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Courses in cooking techniques, cake decorating, and special diets would be an asset.
- Food Handler's Certificate required.
- Ability to read and understand general labels/WHMIS labels and MSDS sheets on cleaning products to understand how to use them safely.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Uptodate immunizations and full medical clearance required.
- Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID19.
