Consider an exciting opportunity as a Digital Publications and Distribution Coordinator with the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS), Ministry of Mines.

You will work with the OGS publications to ensure quality control, prepare public announcements and generate annual summaries. You will also manage and load digital publications into internal repositories/databases and online for client access.


The Branch

The Ontario Geological Survey collects, distributes and applies geoscience data and information to attract and guide mineral investment and to help inform broad provincial land-use planning decisions related to the environment, ecology, climate change and public health and safety.


The Unit

Geoservices Section delivers chemical and physical analyses of inorganic materials at the Geoscience Laboratories; cartographic, editorial, and publication services of geoscience products; warehouse services, library and archiving services.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role you will:

  • Exercise quality control by inspecting and modifying digital versions of new OGS publications, ensuring government standards are met prior to release to the public
  • Ensure timely release of OGS digital reports, maps, data sets and other publications for the Mines and Minerals Division
  • Coordinate public announcements
  • Assist in the management of the digital publication databases
  • Compile, edit, update and promote content on the Publication Services Unit (PSU) web pages
  • Assist front line staff in providing client support related to digital publications

How do I qualify?:


Specialized knowledge:


  • You have a general knowledge of the principles and practices of geoscience
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of the principles of technical and copy editing, cartography and page composition
  • You have knowledge of principles, practices, and guidelines for electronic and desktop publishing including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

General skills:


  • You have well developed organizational and prioritization skills to set, meet and adjust work priorities and schedules to meet objectives
  • You have an ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • You have investigative, problemsolving, and reasoning skills to respond to requests
  • You have well developed communication and interpersonal skills

Computer skills:


  • You are proficient with computer software including wordprocessing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, internet searches and web editing
  • You have knowledge of common GIS and graphics software
  • You are proficient with Adobe Suite of products
  • You can use automated tools to conduct quality control and identify and correct issues
