Description
Basic Purpose:
- Results oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform simple sample preparation proficiently
- Gain full knowledge with respect to performing sample preparation procedures and related quality control techniques
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety Policies when conducting all activities.
- Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily sample preparation work to accommodate due dates and hold times.
- Prepare calibration standards, and samples using procedures described in SOPs and WI.
- Perform sample preparation procedures, which may include moisture determination, titrations, filtration, digestions and extractions on soil, solids, swabs, air, water and tissue.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) when conducting following work:
- Perform simple sample preparation and procedure prior to sample analyses
- Perform some basic testing procedures.
- Identify any nonroutine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling
- Prepare standards and reagents and ensure adequate supplies are available by monitoring quantities
- Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis
- Operate and maintain all necessary instruments and equipment to complete tasks (computers, volumetric dispensers, balances, temperature devices, etc).
- Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are prepared within holding time requirements.
- Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mixup and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
- Provide input to corrective action procedures and report problems and Corrective Actions to the Supervisor.
- Works under guidance of Supervisor, Team Lead, or Senior Analyst.
- Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
- Participate, when requested in lab and Health & Safety meetings
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
- Keeps work area clean, neat and organized
Skills and Knowledge:
- Post-Secondary school education or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated success in the role of a Laboratory Technician
- Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocols.
- Knowledge of, and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions.
- Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities.
- Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities.
- Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and instructions
- Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills
- Good timemanagement, communication, multitasking and priority setting skills
- Strong computer skills
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fastpaced environment
Working Conditions:
- High level of work production in fastpaced lab environment. Can involve the repetition of the same process. Requires patience, tenacity and persistence.
- Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
- May involve long periods of standing
- Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs)
- Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment
