Description
The primary role of the OTA/PTA is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist.
This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.
This role will be a valuable addition to the Internal Medicine team and will report directly to the Clinical Leader/Manager for Internal Medicine.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
- Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
- Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
- Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
- Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate from a recognized and accredited combined OTA/PTA program (or equivalent)
- Current CPR certification
- 12 years' experience working in acute care, Internal Medicine and/or Geriatric experience preferred
- Must demonstrate experience with cognitive treatment and retraining and delirium
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Ability to modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status required
- Ability to carry out directions of therapists
- Independent decision making skills required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member
- Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and task groups
- Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development
- Good work and attendance record required
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
- Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession (e.g. membership with professional association, etc.) preferred
HOURS:
Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program
