Description

The primary role of the OTA/PTA is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and/or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist.

This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.


This role will be a valuable addition to the Internal Medicine team and will report directly to the Clinical Leader/Manager for Internal Medicine.

This will be of interest to those who enjoy working in a fast paced acute care environment with a complex patient populations including:
frail elderly, marginalized and homeless, neurology, stroke and persons with addictions and mental health disease.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduate from a recognized and accredited combined OTA/PTA program (or equivalent)
  • Current CPR certification
  • 12 years' experience working in acute care, Internal Medicine and/or Geriatric experience preferred
  • Must demonstrate experience with cognitive treatment and retraining and delirium
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Ability to modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status required
  • Ability to carry out directions of therapists
  • Independent decision making skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member
  • Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and task groups
  • Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development
  • Good work and attendance record required
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
  • Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession (e.g. membership with professional association, etc.) preferred

HOURS:
Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program
