JOB DESCRIPTION:
Summer Reading Club Assistant


Reports to:

Manager, Library Community Engagement or designate


Position Summary:


To assist in the promotion and delivery of the Summer Reading Club program for children up to 12 years old and teenagers 13-18 years old.


Direction Exercised:

None.


Responsibilities:


  • Under the direction of the Manager, Library Community Engagement or designate, this position:
  • Assists in the preparation, presentation, and implementation of programs and physical materials for the Summer Reading Club;
  • Assists children with their book reporting;
  • Creates digital and print promotional materials that feature themes being presented;
  • Maintains statistical records and writes a final report for the Summer Reading Club;
  • Participates in the Town's Health and Safety Program and follows safety practices in work methods and procedures; observes, and complies with all relevant Health & Safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:


  • Experience working with children in an informal education and/or recreation setting;
  • Familiarity with a library, cultural institution, or notforprofit organization is considered an asset, as is a background in summer camps;
  • Experience with video editing, maintaining a YouTube account, and appearing on video is considered an asset.

Knowledge:


  • Friendly and positive nature, able to communicate well with children of all ages and their caregivers;
  • Ability to work well independently and with others;
  • Some knowledge of children's books, early childhood development, and/or current children's interests;
  • Skilled in preparing posters, displays, and other promotional material in physical and digital forms;
  • Creativity and onthefly problemsolving;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office software, social media, mobile apps, and internet searching;
  • Demonstrated interest in learning new technology and software.

Required:


  • Applicants must be between ages of 15 years and 30 years;
  • A flexible schedule including the ability to work days, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays;
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening;
  • A valid driver's licence or access to transportation in order to commute to various locations for program delivery on a regular basis.
