Summary


Reporting to the Manager, Community Engagement & Special Projects, the Communications & Development Specialist is responsible for managing the YMCA-YWCA's communication and fundraising initiatives.

As the Specialist, you will work on internal and external communication strategies to raise awareness and support for the association.

You will use data and best practices to drive fundraising revenue and build support through annual giving programs, events, media relations, and other initiatives aligned with the YMCA-YWCA's mission.


Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develops communications strategies as part of the organization's marketing and development teams.
  • Writes key messages and content that enhances the organization's image and reputation.
  • Assists leadership with speeches and presentations.
  • Sources and develops social media content.
  • Executes basic design, print and electronic components of communications projects.
  • Sources and creates content to showcase the Y's impact to both internal and external audiences to advance the Y's mission and cause.
  • Support the organization's Government Relations efforts.

Fund Development

  • Work with senior leadership to develop a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
  • Generate awareness of the YMCA-YWCA as a charity in the community and build relationships with existing and new community partners, volunteers and donors.
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy, Engagement & Impact Team, to create and implement a comprehensive Annual Giving Campaign Strategy.
  • Provide support for the organization's Heart of the City Capital Campaign and leadership to the United Way workplace campaign.

Media Relations

  • Proactively builds relationships with key media contacts and influencers.
  • Initiates and responds to media relations initiatives.
  • Writes, edits and proofs editorial articles and opinion pieces.

Qualifications

  • Undergrad degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing or related field (equivalent work experience will also be considered)
  • Demonstrated success in utilizing various best practices and approaches to direct marketing campaigns, including direct mail, eappeals, social media campaigns, etc.
  • Exceptional project and time management skills, including the ability to work within condensed timeframes and to effectively prioritize work and exercise excellent judgment.
  • Exceptional writing skills and experienced storyteller with the ability to identify and build rapport with brand ambassadors and target audiences.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, proposals and tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to research, provide options for consideration and evaluate the results.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work constructively across functional teams both internally and externally.

Experience:
Required

  • 3+ years experience Communications strategies, direct marketing campaigns, social media content, community fundraising, etc.
  • Undergrad degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing or related field (equivalent work experience will also be considered)
