Overview:
Participates as a member of the T&D Division and performs Apprentice duties of Journeyperson level work in the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution systems, including substations underground and streetlight systems.
Responsibilities:
- Restores transmission and distribution systems when there is a power disturbance, failure, or storm damage by locating the source of the problem, replacing and /or repairing defective power lines and accessories.
- Completes pole and conductor replacements on distribution or transmission systems throughout the NWT Power Corporation. (120v to 115KV)
- Calculates transformer, conductor and fuse sizes for various distribution system upgrades. Includes feeder and phase balancing.
- Completes customer service meter readings and installs single phase and poly phase metering.
- Constructs single phase and three phase transmission and distribution lines (5KV to 115KV). Includes installation of three phase transformer banks.
- Performs routine line and substation maintenance and inspections.
- Performs hot stick work on 5 KV to 115 KV lines from wood and steel structures. Uses hotline and liveline maintenance techniques and procedures for 5KV 25KV.
- Monitors material, equipment and related costs used on various work orders on a daily and weekly basis. Completes all paper work in a timely manner.
- Works with and assists other trades and contractors and provides guidance and training to apprentice power linepersons, casuals and/or helpers as required.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma with a minimum grade of 70% in each of the following courses: English 202, Math 203, Science 10 or a passing mark of 70% or higher on the Trades Entrance Exam #5. Some related electrical experience required.
- Team player with the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Good planning, organizational and communications skills.
- Valid NT Class 5 driver's license required.
- Must undergo a successful criminal background check.
