Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver course content according to the schedule provided by the Naval Fleet School and in accordance with Master Lesson Plans (MLPs) provided by the Naval Fleet School.
  • Develop supplementary materials and activities for the delivery of MLPs, including PowerPoints, videos, handouts, experiments and other experiential learning activities.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments (quizzes, assignments, projects, experiments) to gauge student progress in and mastery of course learning outcomes as well as develop and implement a course grading scheme that aligns with the Naval Fleet School requirements.
  • Grade assessments, complete student reports (progress and final). Identify students experiencing learning or behavioural challenges in a timely manner to the designated Naval Fleet School personnel and the Associate Director.
  • Provide student support before and after class as required, including oneonone or small group tutoring, students who are finding their courses challenging to improve their learning and success rates.
  • Assist and mentor new Part-Time Instructors. Develop and deliver professional development workshops to Part-Time Instructors.

Note

  • Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work inperson onsite at CFB Halifax and on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion for teaching and learning and an understanding of the different ways that students learn.
  • A strong understanding of the principles of adult education, acquired either through experience or through an adult teaching and learning qualification.
  • Strong communication (presentation, verbal and written) skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging supplementary materials.
  • Proven organizational, time management and prioritization skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of individuals.

Assets

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with educational technologies, including learning management systems, video and audio software, and presentation software.
