    What you'll do
  • Effective research, communication, facilitation, and technical writing skills are particularly important in this position. The incumbent is a member of the Corporate Services department and reports to the Director, Risk Management.
  • Responds to queries from members of the University community with respect to the University's policy management process and practices.
  • Liaises with policy owners and administrators, legal counsel, and others to respond to inquiries or to communicate relevant policyrelated information.
  • Undertakes research into policies and practices at other post
- secondary institutions.

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant federal and provincial laws.
  • Collaborates with policy writers on the development of new or revised policy documents. Writes, edits, or rewrites text to ensure compliance with university policy related standards and to improve texts for clarity and consistency.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the University's policies and procedures, tracking policy status, updating the policy master list and producing associated reports as requested.
  • Assists policy proponents, administrators, and officers in gathering, reviewing and taking action on policy feedback, particularly relating to new or revised policy requirements.
  • Supports policyrelated training, workshops and other activities to raise awareness of the policy development process and encourage the development of consistent policy development and implementation.
  • Supports policy working groups and other policy consultation exercises as requested.
  • Contributes as an integral member of the University's policy review teams providing administrative support to chairs as requested and related expertise to review teams.
  • Assists with conducting policy related compliance monitoring, tracking policy creation, revision and approval schedules and associated activities.
  • Creates guidance, templates and other documents that support the policy process
  • Manages the internal facing policy office website and provides regular policy related communication to the university community.
  • Manages publication of policy related documents on the university's external facing website. Maintains the official archive of expired policy documents.
  • Manages multiple projects and timelines, works independently on own tasks and encourages others to act as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Solid knowledge of policy development, revision, and management practices within the context of a postsecondary institution.

Required Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, communications, English, Social Sciences, or a related discipline such as technical writing or editing; A degree in law is an asset.
