About DEWC

The Opportunity


The Kitchen Trainer is primarily responsible for providing a nutritious meal within a busy and chaotic drop-in centre and/or emergency night shelter including meal planning and preparation, serving, cleaning and maintenance, customer service skills, stock taking and ordering.

She will participate in supporting a relevant training program for community volunteers in all aspects of the kitchen. Reporting to the Kitchen Manager, she will collaborate with other DEWC staff to promote integrated services to women. She will work from a feminist perspective and within an anti-oppression framework.


About You
You have a minimum of 2 years related experience preferable within a drop in and/or shelter environment.
You will promote and articulate the mission, mandate, philosophy, and values of DEWC.

You are knowledgeable of the issues impacting women in the dtes, including gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and addictions with an understanding of trauma-informed care responses.

You have the ability to work calmly and respectfully within a busy, chaotic, crisis driven environment where there are multiple demands and prioritize.

You have strong conflict resolution skills and demonstrated crises intervention training and experience
You have, or will obtain, a First Aid Certification, Food Safe, and NVCI.
