The opportunity:


CBC London is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and experienced broadcast journalist to fill a one-year contract position hosting our flagship morning radio program that endeavors to connect Londoners to their city.

Every weekday at 6 a.m., people in London and surrounding communities tune-in or stream London Morning.

It's here they find the audio version of local breaking and enterprise news, regional music and cultural updates and all the need-to-know discoveries close to home.

As host, you're curious and committed to finding these stories. That's because you live all things London and pride yourself on making community connections.


You seek accountability from the leaders representing the fastest growing city in Ontario and you don't shy away from challenging the status quo.

You see that London is changing and you don't want to leave anyone out of CBC's coverage.


This position involves pitching and writing for London Morning and contributing to all of CBC London's digital platforms, including video for streaming and social.

You are passionate about finding new ways to tell stories and embrace the many ways that CBC London content can reach people where they're at, and on the devices they choose.


This is a senior position for a broadcast journalist who is interested in digging deep, explaining complex issues in straightforward ways, and giving our community the information it needs most.

You take pride in being self-motivated and working effectively under pressure and deadlines.

You have the experience to determine potential legal issues and violations of CBC's journalistic standards and practices, and can act on them in a live environment.

You understand that as host of the top rated radio program in London, working overtime is sometimes critical.


Key Tasks:


  • Works with the CBC London team to plan the best possible agendasetting lineup each day.
  • Pitches stories and program ideas.
  • Helps to script and execute the show.
  • Stays informed about the community and the issues impacting it, including building contacts and a knowledge base.
  • Gathers audio and video material in the field, edits and packages it to share with the audience on any required platforms.
  • Participates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate to promote the program(s) and/or the CBC as a whole.
  • Hosts live breaking news specials / remote shows as needed.
  • Familiarity with photo, audio and video equipment, and editing tools is an asset.
  • A university degree in a field relevant to the position or a combination of education and work experience relevant to the position.
  • Proven journalism skills, strong news judgment, excellent general knowledge.
  • Strong live onair performance and excellent interview skills on a range of topics and themes, all kept to time.
  • A love and understanding of London

  • Curious, incisive and critical thinker.
  • Engaging and intelligent onair presence, showing a wide emotional range.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
