Work Experience

  • 35 years as an insurance Appraiser estimator, during which time they would have had the opportunity to prepare scopes of loss, bid packages, formal estimates and tenders on losses ranging from minor incidents to total loss residential and heavy commercial risks.
  • Alternatively, 35 years as a project manager and/or construction estimator, ideally with an insurance restoration firm, or within the larger construction industry. During which time they would have had the opportunity to prepare scopes of loss, bid packages, formal estimates and tenders on losses ranging from minor incidents to total loss residential and heavy commercial risks.
  • Experience acting as a trainer or technical resource with respect to estimating platforms. Further, experience mentoring and coaching with respect to general construction practices and methodologies would be an asset. Solid written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to present material in front of a large and varied audience.
  • Experience at the Claim Representative to Claim Specialist level within the Property and Casualty industry. Experience preparing scopes of repair using computer estimating software programs including a high degree of proficiency with Xactimate. Working as a Corporate trainer with regard to costing analysis, scope preparation and overall claim handling.
  • Experience in a Leadership capacity, leading a team of Property Adjusters handling moderate to complex residential and commercial property losses. Providing technical guidance and claims expertise, coaching and mentoring. Experience with the Performance Management cycle.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to multitask and work in a constantly changing environment is required for this role. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written is also required.

Educational Requirements

  • University degree in any discipline or a two year diploma from a provincially recognized and funded community or technical college in one of the following programs: Insurance, Law & Security, Loss Control, Business Administration, Construction Management, Architectural or Engineering Technology.
  • IICRC (Institute for Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) certifications including but not limited to WTR
  • Water Restoration Technician, ASD
  • Applied Structural Drying.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) or Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) designations
  • Xactware, Symbility, HAAG, certifications of benefit
