Family Justice Services Division (FJSD) delivers programs and services that promote the timely and just resolution of family disputes within a comprehensive family justice system.

Through community-based Justice Access Centres and Family Justice Centres, FJSD provides various in person and virtual programs and services, including initial needs determination, dispute resolution, Section 211 Family Law Act reports, and Parenting After Separation online courses.

The Family Justice Report Service (FJRS) provides court ordered assessments completed by a provincial team of Family Justice Counsellors dedicated and specifically trained to this work.

The Justice Interviewer (Interviewer), FJRS plays a key role in performing initial needs determination in a service delivery area that often involves complex issues and high conflict families.

This service is delivered by phone using an integrated telephone/software system and in person.


Job Requirements:


  • A recognized undergraduate degree with a minimum of six months related work or volunteer experience in a human service field (e.g.
, Indigenous organizations and community services, counselling, community service agencies, employment assistance, dispute resolution, court services, legal services);
OR:


  • A two year diploma in a related field such as social sciences, paralegal, or dispute resolution with a minimum of two years related work or volunteer experience in a human service field (e.g.
, Indigenous organizations and community services, counselling, community service agencies, employment assistance, dispute resolution, court services, legal services);
OR:


  • An equivalent combination of education training, and experience may be considered.
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

  • Six months or more experience working with families in a human service field.
  • Completed one or both of the following online courses:
  • Family Justice Service in British Columbia online course
  • FAMJ-1000 (formerly FAM190 or CORR606), Justice Institute of BC.
  • Family Violence: Impact on Separation and Divorce online course
  • FAMJ1002 (formerly FAM191 or CORR605), Justice Institute of BC.
  • Applicants who selfidentify as Indigenous (First Nations status or nonstatus, Inuit and/or Metis), with the required combination of education and experience.

Willingness Statements/Provisos:


  • Required to deliver service by phone using an integrated telephone/software system and in person (office setting).
  • Potential for receiving information related to significant family conflict, threat of violence, or child neglect or abuse, an exposure to clients who may be highly emotional or at times present in a hostile or aggressive manner.
  • Occasional travel is a requirement of this position (e.g., training, meetings).

About this Position:

There are currently two (2) full-time permanent positions available.

The Interviewer provides initial needs determination, information, referral, and other related services to clients seeking to access the justice system and have been court ordered to participate in a s.

211 report.

This role elicits, verifies, and ascertains information from clients at the point of initial contact, including screening for dynamics of family violence or issues requiring urgent attention, and any current involvement with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Based on this information, the Interviewer assists the client in assessing options, provides information related to the s.211 process and the range of dispute resolution options/educational resources available, and makes referrals to various services as needed.
