A. Duties & Responsibilities


The material handler reports to the Shift Supervisor and is responsible for keeping all production equipment supplied with all the materials required.

The material handler is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the plant floor areas and for using proper procedures during cleans up.

Machines must be kept free of spilled plastic pellets.

Material Handler is responsible for all the following tasks within the moulding area:
Material Handling

Material Handler will establish an efficient route from machine to machine, grinding area, material storage area, warehouse and assembly areas.

This will allow the material handler to develop awareness for immediate and upcoming material requirements.

  • The Material Handler will advise the supervisor immediately if a task cannot be attended to or completed as required.
  • The Material Handler must not convey any items without complete identification. If material is found without proper identification it must be reported to Quality or Supervisor immediately.
  • Material Handler will ensure that materials are consumed in FIFO (first in, first out).
  • Material Handler is responsible to keep machine hoppers full, covered, and grinders emptied out at all times
  • Material Handler must be familiar with all types of resins used and is ultimately responsible that the correct material is being used for the job by consulting the Operation Instruction and/ or set-up sheet to determine the correct material required for the job.
  • Material Handler will blend colour concentrate when required.
  • Material Handler must ensure the maximum allowable regrind is being consumed in each moulding process.
  • All hoppers and dryers must be covered at all times and identified with the proper Material ID Tag (if applicable)
  • Grinding must be done promptly, and grinder buckets emptied periodically before overflow.
  • Virgin and Regrind Material must be covered and stored in separate containers clearly marked.
  • All unused material must be returned to the raw material inventory
  • Communicate with the Material Handlers on the next shift to coordinate/anticipate mould changes and required tasks.
  • Notify Supervisor immediately if any items are low in inventory to avoid potential shortage
  • Break down empty gaylords.
  • The material handler is responsible to ensure all products (where applicable) are scanned before being moved to the warehouse.
  • When job is not running, all packaging and components are to be removed and stored in the approved area.
  • Garbage in Cell is to be removed before the end of the shift.
Raw Material Change

  • Turn off loader to stop material feed
  • If required drain out remaining material from loader or dryer and place back into storage prior to next production run.
  • Disassemble loader or dryer and clean of all previous material.
  • Inspect the loader or dryer to ensure all pellets, dust have been removed.
  • Reassemble loader or dryer
  • Ensure the correct material ID chip (if applicable) has been placed on dryer or loader
  • Ensure the dryer log sheet has been updated to new material or lot
Cleaning of Grinders

  • Turn off main power switch and unplug grinder and lock out main disconnect.
  • If required remove remaining regrind from drawer and store in raw material storage area.
  • Using vacuum, thoroughly clean drawer and corners of drawer of all particles.
  • Disassemble grinder, ensuring blades and screen are free of previous material using vacuum.
  • Replace and tighten all articles that were removed
  • Sweep the grinder area to ensure all pellets have been removed
  • Plug grinder in and turn on main power switch to proceed with grinding

B. Minimum Qualifications


  • Grade 12 education, material handling experience or injection molding experience.

Required Skills:


  • Fork Lift Handling.
  • Understanding of key Quality & Environmental Management Systems procedures related to job function.
  • Forms, Tags, and Labels.
